Beyond Just Googling

With today's technology, it is essential that companies stay on track with the ever growing developments of the internet. It is no longer just about television commercials and newspaper ads, it is about connecting to a global audience through the internet. There is now a whole psychology behind what initial words we think of before typing into a search field. Companies like BruceClay* help generate more traffic through Search Engine Optimization. In their front page, they describe SEO as a "process... often viewed as a struggle to rank well for just a few keywords, instead of a struggle to satisfy the needs of those entering the query." In short, they stress how important it is to target specific keywords in order to optimize traffic-- meta tags.

In today's New York Times, an article titled "How to Market Your Business With Facebook"* mentions the process of how to market a business through social-networking. Since Facebook has millions of users of various demographics, it is extremely quick with mass exposure. For example, the article tells the story of how a wedding photographer managed to generate thousands in growth in profit with just $300 for Facebook advertising.

If I were to personally promote my own company, I would first try to consult a SEO company to help me with searching. Depending on what my company specializes in, I would try to use words that are related to it while trying to generate as much traffic as possible. After that, I would try to reach a broad audience by using Facebook and other social networking sites. Like the wedding photographer, if I were say, a veterinarian, Facebook would link me with those users who have pets or have interests in animals. I would also use Twitter to keep people up to date with any information concerning my company.

Also, in terms for the design of my website, I would choose specific colors that is modern and contemporary. I would like to have a clean design that would attract a universal audience through simplicity and design. I think it is important to have a good name for your company and also to brand it as an image you would think would attract as much customers as possible.
