Privacy Invasion

I personally don't like this idea. I think that it is a risky investment for Microsoft to have Bing partnering with Twitter and Facebook. I mean who would want to have their statuses public across the world wide web now. Now everyone have access to your daily lives. It is very a creepy thought. It is a new and somewhat fresh idea but definitely not a smart move to make. So, it wouldn't affect Google in a big way.
It would definitely be a huge privacy issue. I just read an article on CNN.com titled "Facebook, Twiitter crooks just a click away": http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/10/24/tech.social.networking.crimes/index.html. If everyone's personal information is on search engines now, then it would be setting up the users to be victims of these cybercriminals. These users are more likely to expose their information on the internet. It would be much more easier to hack in to their accounts. It would definitely be an advantage for cybercriminals.

  1. I totally agree with you, but I think this deal could be helpful in term of organizations not single people. for example, I think it would be helpful to get the latest news of the ischool though Bing search engine without following them on twitter or facebook.

  2. I agree that I wouldn't want my personal information broadcasted over the World Wide Web but it did mention in the article we read for class that it is an "Option" on Facebook if you want your "profiles show up in "people search" queries".
Also they mentioned that they were working on "redefining its privacy controls so that members can specify which of their information and updates can be made public." So, if a user is uncomfortable with their life being out there for the world to see they can choose not to do so.

  3. I also do not like the idea of having people's personal information public for everyone in the world to see just by typing a certain phrase. I agree that it is a huge privacy issue because who would want strangers from who knows where to read their status updates.
