SEO and gaining Traffic

Like many web designers and others who make websites, they just want their page to be noticed and used. A successful site is one that not only gains the attention of it's users but also helps them with something that they set out to do by visiting your site. The search engine optimization article that we had to read for class contains a lot of valuable information on this type of topic. Search Engine Optimization or SEO is the process of finding the targeted keyword phrases related to a website. The article points out that many people try to get their website out there by gaining popularity over search engines such as google. They work to achieve high rankings in the search results by a number of different processes. Some processes I already knew but I did not consider many others that important, whereas this article, did.
For one, I knew having grammar errors and not well-picked keywords in your title code could affect your search results in google. However, I had no idea about meta data and tags and robot tags that could be used to help find your page or could even prevent you page from being seen on a search engine like google's or bings. Also, by writing cripser and cleaner code, your website would be more likely to show up on a search engines results. There are many different ways people gain popularity to their site but a key way of doing so would be to use a social networking site. Networking is everything. If you know a lot of people or know a person who knows a lot of people, using a social networking site to gain publicity to your site will be a lot easier. Using facebook or my space would be a great tool in this case to gain creditably for your site.

  1. I agree, before reading that Google article, I would have never known those "special" ways to make a web page "noticeable". I think that networking is important in promoting and marketing your website so more poeple would want to search for it.

  2. I had no clue about using meta data and tags either, but I did come across the concept in the link that I posted. Yet, I am a little bit interested on how you would use a social networking site to gain publicity to your own site. How would this be done? would it be as an advertisement on a social networking site such as facebook or would it be on your own page?

  3. Making the lives of your users easier with descriptive, concise page titles and robust metadata makes sense. That clean code matters so much in determining search ranking isn't something that springs to my mind when I think about SEO, though I guess it does make sense in when you think about it from the point of view of some search engine spider crawling the pages.

  4. I agree with you when you said: “I knew having grammar errors and not well-picked keywords in your title code could affect your search results in google.” And then in another part you wrote: “by writing cripser and cleaner code, your website would be more likely to show up on a search engines results.” Well a keyword like cripser may prevent your website from showing up in Google.
That’s something you should think about.
