What's the point?

Mainly I believe this an attempt for Microsoft to gain some form of legitimacy into the search engine market. Bing itself will not take over or even have much of an impact on Google so Microsoft is trying to find any little feature they can tack on to Bing to make it a more desirable site to browse. It's better for Microsoft than to not do anything at all, but quite frankly the whole idea seems, for lack of a better term, stupid.
I don't have a Facebook account or Twitter myself, but I could imagine that people don't want their profiles to open to everyone on the Internet. This will just make way for more creepy online stalking like there's not enough of it already. Who needs all these live update to appear each time someone makes a search query? It'll just clog up webservers with unnecessary information. Some people just want to find out information without knowing what a person is doing at given moment. Interms of this having a effect on Google's maret share, I don't think it will since Google is already in talks with Facebook and Twitter about a potential deal. It really all depends on if this idea catches on or not. It might or might not benefit Facebook and Twitter depending on whether people become attracted to these sites or just find them utterly annoying and cumbersome to deal with. I personally feel it will detract from the appeal of these sites. As a web designer I don't think this will have any affect on websites I design. I don't condone social networking sites like Facebook or Twitter and would not make any effort whatsoever to incorporate real-time live status updates or any other aspect of Facebook or Twitter into any site I design.

  1. I agree with you. It was make stalking easier as well as detract from the appeal of the sites. Personally it makes me want to recheck all of my privacy settings

  2. Yes exactly, well said. What is the point of all this? It would be interesting to see how all this turns out. I would definitely want to look into my privacy settings as well.
