CNN's new look

I think that CNN’s new website is a step in the right direction. By dividing the breaking news, main content and user section into columns it makes it easier to read. Then they have various other topics separated and clearly labeled with titles also make it more convenient to look for other desired stories. Giving each section borders is also a plus. A website such as CNN.com is one that has tons of stories and information throughout the site, many people only care about a few of those stories at a given time so it is essential that the information is clearly organized and separated by category. It is also important that the website does not overload the homepage with too much content. Too much content can cause confusion and create hidden content the user may miss.

  1. Wondering if you think that it has too much content? I know that I lot of people just want to get to the news that they find interesting, but what about the ones that like pictures and videos? Do you think that they main focus of pics and videos will over shadow its core content? I totally agree with your statement about having the various topics separated and clearly labeled. It makes it easier to focus on what you came to the site for and that's news.

  2. I definitely agree with what you are saying. As far as your ending point goes, I would say that the new redesign that CNN has done is exactly what they needed to keep from having too much content. The old format focused on a lot of text and information while the new one takes the better approach of pointing out the story, then linking you to the information. While I noticed that they divided several of their underneath sections out, I did not pick up on the exact detail of a border. This was a good find and an even more important small detail that certainly adds to the visual appeal of the lower section of the homepage. That was something that was lacking in the old format.
