My general thought on the adaptation of websites in the recent years is that they will no longer rapidly progress like they had about 10 years ago. The technologies concerning Internet browsing and display formatting are something that I think are going to stay relatively basic, as far as advancement goes, for about the next 5 years. This means that with no significant advancements in the technology, there will also be no need to change any kind of current formatting of websites.
One area that I could see change in the relative future is the adaptation of computer and Television interaction. Currently you can view your computers output through your television by plugging a VGA cord into the back of the computer. This allows you to fully browse through anything you would like on the television while still typing on the computer or using your mouse. This technology allows for a much larger visual size which could therefore call for a shift in the design of some online sites. While the technical size of the screen stays proportionate to what the computer would show, the resolution typically comes out somewhat blurred and fuzzy due to the large translation. It would not surprise me to see some kind of innovation put into web design to address this kind of issue.
A website designer needs to keep several things in mind when approaching the design of a website and addressing any new technologies. First, you want to look at your essential competition. You need to see what new innovations they are offering and make sure to take note of items you might want to incorporate into your own site. After scouting the competition, you want to also make sure website looks different than the competition. It is important to incorporate your site’s innovation in a way that makes it stand out as compared with your competition so that a new viewer will have interest when first viewing your site. Addressing any new kinds of market products is very important because the minute you fall behind in the new advancement is the minute the visitors choose a different site to view over yours.
You bring up an interesting point about VGA output, but I have to disagree with the first point you made. I don't think we can ever expect technology to stop expanding and evolving. It will be a travesty if we are looking at the same things 1 year from now, let alone 5 years from now.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Adam. Look at how much the use of internet technologies has changed just in the past couple of years! Such technological expansion is such a large focus in our society -- just look at how well the industry did during the recession, or the fact that IST and Engineering have two entire schools just within SU alone -- that I have no doubt that the way people use the internet will change greatly in the upcoming few years.
