Future of Webpage Size

I believe that as time goes on, websites will become larger than the old 800x600 standard. Screen resolutions have gotten so much bigger since the days where it was all 800x600. My screen's resolution is 1440x900, and I can only see them getting bigger. As fewer people use the old monitors of the past, website designers will take advantage of the greater amount of pixels they can use. This matters because we are currently taking a class on how to design websites. If we go on to do this as our career, or even as a side hobby, we will be taking larger screens into account as we create and design websites.

As a potential future website designer, I will continue to monitor how technology advances and the permeation of new technology in the consumer and corporate environments - ie, how many people are using newer, larger screens versus the 800x600 monitors of the past. As more people use screens with higher pixel capability, I will probably design my websites to be larger than 800x600 and take up more of the available space.

  1. Designing how a website is displayed should be similar like the u-haul model of business: when you are renting a truck from them, they offer you trucks with different capacity dimensions and then you pick the one that fit your needs. With this on mind web designers can create a program that ask users if they are using a big screen with high resolution, a regular screen with low resolution or a small screen like a PDA and format the content to fit their screens.
I think this is just logical.
