The thing about Google that impresses me is their apparent intensions, google seems to have a genuine desire to create products that change the way people live their lives, I can't watch any news channel without seeing a google maps credit. Google could have cashed in so long ago but instead of doing what everyone else was doing they came up with a complete new way to incorporate sponsored links without cramming them down their users throats, it's almost like they are looking out for us.
I have witnessed the development of the internet, when I was in college there were 2 kids in my graduating class who had internet access at home and they paid per minute. Google has taken over development of how we use the internet and I think Google Wave is a step in the right direction for google to stay on top for a long time.
I don’t believe what I hear, but I believe what I see and Google’s actions speak for themselves. Not long ago, the Chinese government issued an ultimatum to Google and the other internet companies: cooperate with us to curtail the freedom of our citizens using the internet or get out of here. When faced with doing the right thing and staying true to the “Don’t be evil” philosophy or bulldozing the human rights of the Chinese civilians and making money, Google’s predicament was a no-brainer: Today, they are helping the Chinese government to crack down on dissidents. There is an anecdote that if you throw boiling water to a frog, it will jump immediately, but if you place the frog in a pot with water and gradually increment the temperature, you can boil the frog to death and it will not jump out, because it became complacent. The same thing happen with people, unless we wake up and see things for what they really are: Google is no angel neither Big Government, they are not using this technology for us, but against us, when the barriers that protect our privacy are erased, soon our rights and freedom will follow.
