As monitors grow, it seems logical that websites will too. It wouldn't make much sense to have large monitors and small websites which amounts to a lot of white space. A little white space is okay, but at a certain point it seems to suggest that the developer got a little lazy with his design. It's true that larger monitors can be used primarily for viewing movies and other forms of entertainment but the reality is that if monitors inevitably grow in size, then a market niche for a new breed of wide-screen compatible websites will open up. Web developers will want to exploit this niche.
Simply adding more navbars and the like is better for navigation but it doesn't satisfy the screen resolution of the larger monitors. In my opinion websites look more aesthetically pleasing if they take up a good amount of monitor space. To address the navigation problem it all comes down to how the site is organized. If links and information are grouped in a logical way, then websites can continue to grow without facing a navigation crisis.

I agree that it makes logical sense to increase the size of websites as monitors increase in quality and size. I think that this is similar to the fact that as computers have increased in power and are able to do more, websites have increased in detail. I also agree that web developers will want to exploit this niche. It is an ever growing market that has so much potential.
ReplyDeleteI think you only see web use one way. The reality is more people are accessing the internet on mobile devices and smaller laptops. Being able to access the internet in a convient fashion all the time is the trend.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. Unless someone wants to keep changing monitors websites needs to be a certain size for easy navigations
ReplyDeleteSize doesn't matter, that's what I've always been told.
ReplyDeleteThe days of people using desktop computers with large monitors for personal use is going to be a short lived fad. As soon as one person in a family buys a laptop everyone will see how liberating it is to unchain yourself from the desk and soon that beautiful 28" widescreen display will become a paper weight for many people. Huge beautiful displays will still be widely used by designers of all types, I think more time and effort needs to go into good and unique design, I think people would rather view a well designed 800 pixel web site while sitting on their couch rather than sitting at some cheap wal-mart desk in the corner away from the rest of the family on a huge screen.
