First of all, I believe that since no one really has any idea of what will come out in the future, designers, developers, and web site managers should always be ready to quickly adapt. No existing technology on the web should ever be thought of as permanent. In order for these companies to be successful they need to be willing to change, as things always do. As standard and ideal as many things on the internet are today, there is no doubt that in the future things will be radically different. The display of a website may not need immediate change right now, but there are certainly developers who are seeking to increase the amount of information a website can hold (i.e: databases) just to be the best of the best, and attract the most viewers.
As a designer and manager of a website myself, I should never assume anything. Technology is always reminding us that once we think we understand something, something new comes out and changes everything. It is important that Web sites be upgrade ready, so that new implementations can be added with ease. It is wrong to base an entire website off of an older or existing technology because then the site will not be able to meet the changing demands of newer more technologically savvy viewers.

ReplyDeleteI completely agree here. I do think that we need to come up with something adaptable, or decide on a happy-medium to cater to old and new technologies.
I too think it is important, as a web manager, to always be ready for change and for our site to be readily available for whatever is possible. No website should be designed, now days, to be only available for a normal computer screen
